Valsad: Police seized 2,779 kg of cannabis-containing intoxicating tablets worth ₹13.88 crore in two separate operations across Valsad district and the neighbouring Union Territory of Dadra and Nagar Haveli, Daman and Diu on Saturday. Three people were arrested, while investigators are searching for other suspects allegedly linked to the supply network.

In the first operation, police raided the residence of Mohammad Amin Basu Khan, 46, in Chhiri village of Valsad and recovered 388 kg of cannabis-infused tablets valued at ₹1.93 crore. Khan was arrested at the spot.

During questioning, Khan allegedly revealed that the consignment had been supplied by Pradip alias Mannu Varma, 28, a resident of neighbouring Dadra. Acting on the information, police arrested Varma and searched his shop in Dadra, recovering another 2,147 kg of similar tablets worth ₹10.73 crore.

The combined seizure in the first operation amounted to 2,535 kg of tablets valued at ₹12.67 crore. Police said two other alleged members of the network, Anurag Gupta of Kanpur in Uttar Pradesh and Salman Siddiqi of Ghatkopar in Mumbai, are yet to be arrested.

In a separate operation, Dungra police seized 243 kg of cannabis-containing tablets worth ₹1.21 crore from the residence of Kartik alias Pappu Biswal at Lakeview Residency in Dungra. Biswal was arrested in connection with the seizure.

Investigators have also identified the alleged involvement of Banmali Patra in the second case and are working to trace and arrest him.

According to police, the accused allegedly sold tablets made from cannabis-mixed material that users chew to experience intoxication. Further investigation is underway to establish the source of the contraband, trace its distribution network and determine whether the seizures are connected to a larger interstate racket. DeshGujarat
