Kankaria Lakefront to Get Two Made-in-India Toy Trains

Ahmedabad: The Amdavad Municipal Corporation (AMC) is set to introduce two indigenously manufactured toy trains at Kankaria Lake during the Diwali festival, replacing the existing foreign-made Atal Express, Standing Committee Chairman Kamlesh Patel said on Thursday.

The two new trains, manufactured using indigenous technology, have been procured at a combined cost of ₹3.59 crore, significantly lower than the approximately ₹8 crore spent on the existing imported train.

Trial runs of both trains have been completed, while necessary formalities, including police verification, are underway. The trains will be opened to visitors once the remaining procedures are completed, with their public launch planned during Diwali.

The Atal Express, introduced at Kankaria Lake in 2008, has remained a popular attraction among Ahmedabad residents and visitors for nearly two decades.

The initiative is in line with the vision of Atmanirbhar Bharat and Make in India, promoting indigenous manufacturing while reducing procurement costs, the AMC said. DeshGujarat
