Leopard/sloth bear census from May 20 in Gujarat

The five yearly census of Leopard, Sloth bear and some other wild animals in Gujarat will begun from May 20.
Range Forest Officer of Mahua in Bhavnagar R P Jadeja today said that the three day state wide exercise would also include Hyena, Jackal, Wild Cats and Wild Boar.
In the last such census conducted in 2011 the total number of leopards in the state was estimated at 1160 while that of sloth bears found mostly in North Gujarat was 293.
Notably the Lion census last year had shown an increase of 27% in the population of the Asiatic lions.
