Out of 12 Dwadash Jyotirlingas in India, Gujarat is fortunate to have presence of two Jyotirlingas in Saurashtra.

While holy place of Somnath jyotirlinga is very well known across India the other one Nageshwar jyotirlinga is comparatively less known.

Nageshwar jyotirlinga is situated at 16 kms from Lord Krishna’s Dwarka. Millions of devotees who visit Dwarka also pay visit to Nageshwar due to geographical proximity.

60 ft high Lord Shiva’s white statue is the most attractive part of Nageshwar teertha pilgrimage. Buses that carry pilgrims when are parked aside this statue look like toys.

T-Series owner late Shree Gulshankumar had contributed to the betterment of this holy place. People associated with Nageshwar temple even today remember him for his services.

Situated in 7 ft deep underground chamber, Jyotirlinga of Nageshwar temple is made using red Dwarka stone and not black stone which is common at all the other Shiva temples across India.

The area of Nageshwar teetha is traditionally known as Daruka van. Daruk was a demon whom Lord Shiva eliminated to save Supriya. Supriya was devotee of Lord Shiva and Daruk had kidnapped her. Daruk wanted to kill Supriya.

It is popularly believed that when Islamic fanatic Muslim ruler Aurangzeb came to the Nageshwar to attack and demolish Shiva’s temple, but fortunately large group of Honey bees attacked him and Aurangzeb had to run away without harming this temple.
