Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani removes red beacon light from his car following union cabinet decision

Surat:Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani today removed red beacon light from his car. Rupani was attending Vocational training center inauguration function at Dharampur in Valsad district of South Gujarat.

As per a decision taken by union cabinet chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi yesterday, all red beacon lights atop vehicles across India will be removed with effect from 1st May 2017. However in Gujarat, the Chief Minister has removed red light atop his car today itself, without waiting for 1st May. As Chief Minister himself has removed red light from his car, it is very much likely that all Gujarat ministers will remove red lights from their cars today itself. Jashabhai Barad is one such minister who has removed red beacon in the morning itself.

As per union finance minister Arun Jaitley’s media briefing yesterday, the decision to remove red lights and ban it permanently was taken by Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi himself. It was PM who reported his decision to cabinet. With amendment in Motor Vehicles Act, red lights atop vehicles will become past from upcoming 1st of May. Blue lights atop vehicles will be permitted but only for emergency vehicles such as ambulance, fire brigade and police.

This decision by Prime Minister is considered very important in direction to eliminate the VIP culture and welcomed by all.

Yesterday the Gujarat government hailed the decision of the union government saying that it would be followed in the state promptly. Chief Minister Vijay Rupani had while hailing the decision said that the decision would be followed promptly by the state government. Education minister Bhupendrasinh Chudasma on the other hand had said that it was a welcome step towards ending the so-called ‘VIP Culture’. In a media-briefing in capital Gandhinagar, Deputy Chief Minister Nitin Patel had said that the decision would further brighten the democratic values. He said that Gujarat, which has which has become a role model for the country with its many novel steps, would study the notification of the central government in this regard and implement it promptly.
