SC relief to Sanjiv Bhatt in illegal construction case
July 26, 2018
Ahmedabad: The Supreme Court was unusually quick on giving relief to dismissed IPS officer Sajniv Bhatt for a matter as small as illegal extension in his bungalow.
Bhatt has illegal construction in his house for which he has used compound wall as support according to Pravinchandra Patel, a senior citizen who is neighbour of Bhatt in residential society located on Drive In road in Ahmedabad.
According to Patel, Bhatt continued illegal construction even after repeatedly asking him not to do so.
The Gujarat High Court this week ordered for removal of illegal construction in Bhatt’s bungalow. In response, Bhatt demanded stay order so that he could file appeal in the Supreme Court. The High Court refused to grant his appeal. Within an hour of High Court order, the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation(AMC) team rushed to Bhatt’s bungalow to demolish illegal extension. However Bhatt approached senior counsel Harin Rawal for oral representation before the Supreme Court even without certified copy of High Court order. A bench of Justice Gogoi immediately gave stay of four days, thanks to which, the AMC team had to return without demolishing illegal extension in Bhatt’s bungalow.
