Azan sound sparks off communal trouble in village in Kutch

Mandvi: Mandvi Police last evening organized a meeting between two comunities to restore harmony and peace in Kathda village of Mandvi taluka in Kutch district where Hindus and Muslims clashed over loud sound of Azan from mosque a days ago.

According to locals in Kathda, there’s a tradition here that loudspeaker sounds are not aired after someone’s death in village. However, on Monday evening the Muslims continued to relay loud sound of Azan over speakers from mosque which sparked off clash between local Muslim Vaghers and Hindu Gadhvis.

Locals Mubarak Hussain and Hardas Shivraj Gadhvi have filed complaints in this regard. Hardas in his complaint said he along with other Hindus were attacked when they went to mosque to convey that loud speakers should not be used as someone from Hindu community was dead in village. On the other side, Mubark Hussain Vagher has alleged attack by Gadhvi Hindus when Azan was going on in the mosque.

In related development, Mandvi police has filed complaint against makers of three separate viral audio clips in Kutchi language in which Muslims are asked to come and gather at Kathda village to reply back to Hindu Gadhvis. In one audio clip, the speaker identifies self as Fakirmamad Vagher. Other voice clips are sent to Muslim community groups by Mundra based Kadarsha Saiyad in his voice. Both are booked under IPC section 113 ABC.
