MoS Railway visits Navsari casting yard of Gujarat bullet train project

Surat: Union Minister of state for Railway Darshana Jardosh launched the casting of a full span prestressed concrete (PSC) box girder at Navsari casting yard for the Mumbai-Ahmedabad High Speed Rail Project on Monday- 1st October. It will be the heaviest PSC box girder in the construction industry of the country.
The box girder of 40-metre span for the bullet train weights 970 metric tons. It is being casted as a single piece without any joints using 390 cubic meters of concrete and 42 tons of steel. The project implementation agency is National High-Speed Rail Corporation Limited (NHRCL) and L & T is developing the project.
A release of L&T stated that it will be setting up 23 casting yards totally along the 508 km Mumbai-Ahmedabad high speed rail route. It further stated, “The 30, 35- and 40-meter full span girders will be launched using the full-span launching methodology that will accelerate the overall construction by almost seven times as compared to segmental launching.” DeshGujarat
