Gujarati Hindu new year Vikram Samvat 2067 begins today.

People of Gujarat visit friends and relatives on this day to wish them ‘Sal Mubarak’ through out the new year day which is known as ‘Bestu Varsh’.

This is the biggest festival of year for Gujaratis. The day starts by paying visit to the nearest temple.

New year calendar begins with the month of Kartak.

The Vikram Era started with Raja Vikramaditya of Ujjain, following his victory over the Saka in 56 B.C. The new year begins with the first day of Kartik following Deepawali Amaavasya. Vikram Samvat is an ancient Hindu calendar.

Vikram Samvat is 56 years ahead of the Christian Calendar and runs on the Gregorian Solar System. It shows the same time with the Jain year. Today, stock markets in India mark the new year on the Vikram Samvat during Diwali.
