PIL against expansion work at Kandla port
February 09, 2023
Ahmedabad: A plea seeking the cancellation of environmental and coastal regulation zone (CRZ) clearances granted to the Deendayal Port Authority (formerly Kandla port) for development work is filed in the High Court of Gujarat.
The petitioners, Saleman Jakhariya and Bharat Patel submitted before the court that the clearances granted by the Union ministry of environment, forest and climate change (MoEFCC) and the Gujarat coastal zone management authority (GCZMA) are in the wrong category. They also claimed that clearance is taken by suppressing information about the existence of mangroves in the area.
The High Court has now sought a reply from the port trust, ministry and the coastal zone authority by February 27.
On the demand to stay, the court asked the petitioner if the clearance was given in 2020 than why the PIL was filed after 2 years. DeshGujarat
