Hippopotamus attacks two in Kamati Baug zoo of Vadodara; Security staffer critically injured

Vadodara: In a shocking incident today, a zoo curator Pratyush Patankar and security person Rohitbhai were attacked by a hippopotamus at Kamati Baug (Sayaji Baug) zoo, here.
Mayor Keyur Rokadiya brief media persons – “today in Kamatibaug zoo, curator Pratyushbhai had received a message that a Hippo was injured from back. So he went there to check the matter as per the process. Hippos were not coming out of the enclosure and they continued to be in the water. So Pratyushbhai went inside the enclosure. Generally, when Hippos come out, the zoo staffer would go behind the railing. However, today perhaps because Pratyushbhai’s shoe was stuck, he couldn’t come out and so Hippo attacked Pratyushbhai.”
“Pratyushbhai however smartly laid down on the ground to pretend that he was dead. And so Hippo didn’t harm him much. However, Rohitbhai, a security guard on a contract entered the enclosure to rescue Pratyushbhai. Rohitbhai was a soldier previously namely. He was attacked by Hippo aggressively. He had huge blood loss and his health condition is critical. He is being treated in Intensive Care Unit. Pratyushbhai is minorly injured and out of danger. Both are admitted to Narhari hospital.”
Municipal Commissioner Banchhanidhi Pani also visited Narhari hospital to inquire about health updates of both zoo staffers. DeshGujarat
