Gandhinagar: The Mansa court approved a 4-day remand for the two accused trustees of Mahudi Jain Tirth who were nabbed by the Gandhinagar local crime branch for stealing gold foil and gold chain worth Rs 45 lakh.
Bhupendrabhai Vora, one of the eight trustees of Mahudi Jain Tirth, filed a complaint against other trustees Nileshbhai Mehta and Sunilbhai Mehta at the Mansa police station, alleging the theft of gold foil, gold chain, and cash from the mandir’s treasury.
Every year on Dhanteras, the gold foil of Bhagwan is melted in the presence of the trustees at Mahudi tirth. During the process this year, it was discovered that 700 to 800 grams of gold foil were missing. The theft was revealed during a CCTV footage inspection after some cash was stolen from the temple. The footage showed Nilesh Mehta and Sunil Mehta, the accused, making suspicious movements. The accused had taken out the gold foil bucket, gold, and silver biscuits a few days prior, while the staff was present. After sending the staff for lunch, the accused were left alone with the valuables, as confirmed by the staff members during the inquiry. The Gandhinagar LCB produced the accused in the Mansa court after recovering the gold chain from them. DeshGujarat
