Cross complaints filed by Hindus and Christian groups over Hanuman Jayanti celebration in Dang

Dang: Cross-complaints have been filed by groups from the Hindu and Christian communities in Ghodvahal village, Waghai taluka of Dang, over the celebration of Hanuman Jayanti.

The local Hindus of Ghodvahal village had decided to stop the use of liquor, meat, and mutton in the village 15 days before Hanuman Jayanti due to Bhajan Kirtan and puja in the mandir. However, on the same day(Thursday), Christians were preparing to mark Good Friday.

The local Christians allegedly rushed to the mandir amidst Hanuman puja, interrupted the program, and argued that the ban on meat, liquor, and mutton in the village was not proper.

The local Hindus have filed a complaint at Saputara police station against 12 Christians for allegedly interrupting the Hanuman Jayanti program. On the other hand, a complaint has been filed against 7 Hindus of Ghodvahal for allegedly beating up the Christians.

Religious conversion of Hindus is rampant in tribals populated areas of South Gujarat, and such incidents of social tension keep happening frequently. DeshGujarat
