New Delhi: The official residence of Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal in Civil Lines, Delhi underwent luxurious-most refurbishment at a cost of nearly Rs 45 crore, the official figures show.
The report by Times Now Navbharat, called “Operation Sheeshmahal,” revealed that taxpayers’ money was used to pay for the super luxurious renovation. Precisely, a whooping Rs 44.78 crore was spent on the refurbishing the CM’s official bungalow.
The documents obtained by the channel showed that the curtains alone cost between Rs 5-8 lakh per piece.Total 23 curtains were purchased for Kejriwal’s residence at a cost of Rs 97 lakhs. Additionally, imported marble from Vietnam, costing Rs 3 crores, was used to renovate the floors, and the chemical used to fix it cost Rs 21,60,000. Six almirahs were installed at a cost of Rs 40 lakhs, while two kitchens were renovated at a cost of approximately Rs 63 lakhs. Six carpets were also purchased for Rs 19,89,000 for use in the CM’s official residence.
After the report came to light both Bhartiya Janta Party (BJP) and Congress leaders have slammed Arvind Kejriwal and Aam Aadmi Party.
BJP leader Shehzad Poonawala wrote on Twitter, “At a time when Delhi was gasping for breath & was desperate for O2 concentrators & ventilators – Kejriwal spent ₹45 cr on his bungalow renovation! Curtains worth ₹1cr, imported marble from Vietnam worth crores, kitchen worth ₹63 lakhs , almirahs worth ₹40 lakhs , interiors worth ₹11cr This is no AAM RENOVATION- it was a Sheesh Mahal style renovation fit for a Badhshah Today Kejriwal’s true face stands completely exposed.”

Congress leader Ajay Maken said, “Kejriwal allegedly spent 45 crores of public funds on his luxurious bungalow, including extravagant items like Dior polish Vietnam marble, expensive curtains, and high-end carpets. However, before his election, he distributed printed copies of a sworn affidavit in his New Delhi Legislative Assembly Constituency, dated June 7th, 2013, in which he made 7 promises. The first three were: 1) Not to use a car with a red light. 2) Not to request additional security beyond what is necessary for a common citizen. 3) To refuse a large bungalow and instead live in an ordinary house like the average person.”
“Despite naming his party ‘Aam Aadmi Party’ (Common Man’s Party) and making these pledges, Mr. Kejriwal spent a fortune on his bungalow when the people of Delhi were desperately seeking oxygen cylinders during the COVID pandemic. Moreover, there are more than 6 lakh households living in slums in the city. This raises questions about his right to remain in his position as a public servant and whether he has upheld the other promises mentioned in the distributed sworn affidavit, especially considering the urgent needs of the citizens,” he added.
