Ahmedabad: The city police and a child rights organization in a joint operation, successfully rescued 11 child laborers from a restaurant near SG Highway on Tuesday. A combined team from Bachpan Bachao Andolan, collaborating with law enforcement, conducted the operation at Iscon Thal (unrelated to the ISKCON organization, i.e., the International Society for Krishna Consciousness), liberating the children employed there.
Legal actions were initiated against the manager of Iscon Thal by the Satellite police, and a formal complaint was filed against the owner.
Among the rescued minors, there were four 17-year-olds, six 16-year-olds, and a 13-year-old child. These children had been subjected to exploitation, forced to work long hours in exchange for a monthly salary of Rs 8,500.
The operation was launched after Damini, a member of Bachpan Bachao Andolan, received a tip-off. She had previously exposed instances of child labor in various hotels along the SG Highway. DeshGujarat
