First phase of Micron’s planned clean room space in Sanand to be operational in 2025: Sanjay Mehrotra

Gandhinagar: Micron, a global leader in semiconductor technology, is setting up a memory assembly and test facility in Gujarat, a first-of-its-kind endeavor in India. The first phase of this project will be operational by 2025, as confirmed by Micron CEO Sanjay Mehrotra during the Vibrant Gujarat Global Summit 2024.

Addressing the event at Mahatma Mandir in state capital, Mehrotra said, ” We have begun phase construction and are proud to partner with TATA Projects to build this world class facility. In fact, I visited this facility just yesterday, and the construction is coming along very nicely. The first phase 500,000 square feet of planned clean room space will be operational by early 2025.”

“Hiring has already begun, and we estimate that this project will create 5000 new direct jobs for Micron here in Sanand, Gujarat, and will also create an additional 15,000 community jobs over the years. The combined investment by Micron and the government over the course of both phases could reach up to US$2.75 billion,” Mehrotra added.

“I am pleased that my good friend Jeffrey Chun of Simmtech is considering bringing his manufacturing facility here to Gujarat in support of Micron’s plant. This is an example of the ecosystem and cluster that Micron is capable of generating as an anchor semiconductor company here in Gujarat and here in India” he added. DeshGujarat
