Poshi Poonam: Jujube fruit showers at Santram Mandir, Pragatya Mahotsav at Ambaji
January 25, 2024
Nadiad: On the occasion of Poshi Poonam or Posh Sud Poonam today, a multitude of devotees participated in the tradition of showering jujube fruits (Bor) at Santram Mandir in Nadiad.
Every year, thousands of devotees come to Santaram Mandir on Poshi Poonam to shower bors. It is learned that this year around 40 thousand devotees are visiting Nadiad for the festival, and these devotees today showered over 20,00,000 kg of bors in the Mandir.
According to the traditional belief, if a child is unable to speak or stutters, his parents, take up resolutions to shower jujube fruits in Santram Mandir so that the child’s inability is cured. Parents make these vows, and if their children subsequently gain the ability to speak, they fulfill their pledges by showering jujube fruits at the mandir. The vows may involve offering various amounts of jujube fruits, and some parents even pledge to offer an amount equivalent to their child’s weight. The jujube fruits showered at the mandir are considered prasad by other devotees.
Nirgun Das Ji Maharaj shared that the tradition originated when a devotee, years ago, informed Santram Maharaj about his child’s speech impediment. Miraculously, the child started speaking, and the devotee, who had jujube fruits in his farm, showered them at the mandir as a vow. Since then, the tradition of taking vows and showering jujube fruits at the mandir has continued.
On the other hand, Poshi Poonam is considered to be the Pragatya (Emergence) divas of Maa Ambaji in Banaskantha. A large number of devotees come for darshan during the Mangala Aarti, which takes place in the morning.
Today, a Mahayagna was held at Chachar Chowk of Ambaji temple. Mataji’s Jyot Yatra reached the temple at 8 o’clock in the morning. Around 10:30 PM, Ambani Mataji’s royal Shobha yatra on an elephant started from Shakti Dwar. The Yatra was welcomed by devotees all across the temple town with the distribution of various prasads along the route, including the prasad of Sukhdi. Boondi Prasad was also distributed to the devotees at the temple. Anakoot and chappan bhogs were offered to Ma Amba. Devotees were also served Rajbhog Prasad of Maa Amba free of cost at the Ambika Bhojnalaya on this day. DeshGujarat
