Top speed of trains on Gandhinagar – Mumbai route to rise to 160 km/h; Vande Bharat, Shatabdi to benefit

Vadodara: Top speed of Mumbai – Gandhinagar Vande Bharat Express train is expected to rise to 160 km per hour from the month of March this year. Western Railway has completed the railway track works to make this possible. The top speed benefit will be availed to not just Vande Bharat Express but also to Shatabdi Express trains on this route. Thanks to this, the travel time between Gandhinagar and Mumbai will decrease by half an hour.
The top speed of Vande Bharat Express at present is 113 km/hour between Ahmedabad and Vadodara. Between Vadodara and Surat, the speed goes down to 105 km/h. From Surat to Vapi it decreases to 95 km/h. From Vapi to Borivali, the speed goes up to 108 km/h. On Borivali to Mumbai Central route, the speed goes down to 35 km/h. Thus the highest speed on this route is achieved on Ahmedabad – Vadodara route which is 113 km/h. Average speed on this route remains 91/hour. Ideal time of the one side journey at present is five hours and twenty five minutes.
The central government has in the budget 2024 provisioned huge amount for raising of speed to 160kmph/200 kmph on existing New Delhi – Mumbai route (including Vadodara – Ahmedabad) – a mission to achieve a travel time of 12 hours between Delhi and Mumbai. DeshGujarat
