Gandhinagar: Former BJP MLA Dr Kanu Kalsariya (below) who was last in the Congress party is all set to rejoin BJP. Kalsariya was visited by Gujarat BJP chief CR Patil and folk artist Mayabhai Ahir today.

Kalsariya left the BJP in 2012 and lost assembly elections in 2012. After leaving the BJP, Kalsariya joined the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) before the 2017 assembly polls. Kalsariya was Gujarat AAP chief for some time.  Kalsariya met Rahul during his 2017 assembly campaign but did not formally join the Congress.

He lost the 2017 assembly election while contesting as an independent candidate. He joined the Congress after meeting then-Congress president Rahul Gandhi in New Delhi in 2018. He contested as a Congress candidate in the 2022 assembly polls and lost again.

Kalsariya, who represented the Mahuva (Bhavnagar) assembly seat till 2012, had led an agitation against the then Chief Minister Narendra Modi-led Gujarat government, opposing a cement plant of Nirma company.

Kalasariya belongs to the Ahir (OBC) community. He achieved no political or electoral success after joining AAP and Congress. He is now all set to rejoin the BJP. DeshGujarat
