May 01, 2024
Rajkot: The city of Rajkot got the Atal Sarovar on May 1st, Gujarat Divas. This latest attraction, spanning 2.93 lakh square metres, features parking, a garden, an entry gate, a bird island, a nature park, fountains, a party plot, a laser show, and other facilities. The word ‘Dream’ is inscribed on the bank of Atal Sarovar.
Since the opening of Atal Sarovar, visitor numbers have steadily increased. Last weekend, long queues at ticket counters caused chaos, prompting the Municipal Commissioner to open additional ticket counters.
Over 100,000 people have visited Atal Lake in 9 days since its opening. Long queues at ticket counters led to chaos. To address this, additional ticket counters have been opened, increasing from 8–10 to 20 on Saturdays, Sundays, and holidays. A QR code scanning system has also been implemented at the main gate for ticket purchases.
Plans are underway to introduce online ticket booking in the near future. Presently, around 3,000–4,000 people visit Atal Lake daily, with a larger influx on weekends. To manage crowds efficiently, barricaded lines will be established for orderly entry.
Boating to come up at Sarovar
The boating facility at Atal Sarovar will be started in next two months period according to RMC officials, who also said that while tracks are ready, the coaches and electric engines have not arrived.
The officials also said that the policy regarding safety in connection with boating activities is awaited. Once the State government announces the policy, the boating activity at Atal Sarovar will be started.
The Sarovar has been constructed at a cost of around Rs. 136 crore. While the entry fee for adults is Rs. 25 per person, children can enjoy the park for a ticket of Rs. 10. However, one has to pay Rs. 80 to enjoy the musical fountain amphitheater. Other rides can also be enjoyed for Rs. 80. DeshGujarat
