Sardar Sarovar Dam generates hydropower to reduce water level ahead of monsoon

Narmada: Due to the continuous inflow of about 25,000 cusecs of water daily from Madhya Pradesh into the Sardar Sarovar Dam (SSP) in Gujarat, the Sardar Sarovar Narmada Nigam Limited (SSNNL) has decided to generate hydropower to reduce the water level in preparation for the monsoon. As of Friday, the dam level stood at 122.28 meters, 56.35% full.
The 1,200 MW Riverbed Powerhouse (RBPH) and the Canal Head Power House (CHPH) have been operational since April, collectively generating an average of 12 million units of electricity per day, worth Rs 3 crore. This power generation helps release 26,000 cusecs of water from the dam to maintain a lower level. Additionally, water is being released into the main canal to meet irrigation and drinking water demands.
SSNNL Chief Engineer RG Kanungo stated that the dam level will be reduced to around 115 meters before the monsoon to accommodate incoming rainwater, given forecasts of above-average rainfall. DeshGujarat
