Widespread heavy rains across Saurashtra today upto 6.10 inches; Dwarka tops the chart

Dwarka: Several talukas in the Saurashtra region are witnessing heavy rainfall today. According to figures from the State Emergency Operation Center in Gandhinagar, Devbhumi Dwarka district has received around 6.10 inches of rain from 6 am to 2 pm. Kalyanpur and Khambhaliya talukas in Dwarka district are among the top talukas with the highest rainfall, measuring over 6 inches.

From 6 am to 2 pm today, 183 talukas across the state have experienced rainfall. In the Saurashtra region, talukas including Manavadar, Visavadar, Mendarda, Dhoraji, Kalavad, Keshod, and Vantahli have recorded rainfall ranging from 3 inches to 6 inches.

A total of 46 talukas in the state have received over an inch of rain by 2 pm since 6 am today.

Over 10,000 cusecs of water are being released from Ozat Weir (Vanthali) amid incessant rains.

The Vagdiya Dam in Jamnagar has also overflowed, with over 4000 cusecs of water flowing over it amidst heavy rains.

Due to torrential rains in Manavadar of Junagadh, 15 villages have lost contact. The road from Junagadh to Porbandar has been closed because of water on the highway, leading to traffic jams near Saradia and inconvenience for villagers

The Bantva Kharo dam has overflowed, leading to the opening of all six gates of the dam by over half a meter. Four villages in Manavadar and Kutiyana have been put on alert due to the heavy water flow. The Collector of Junagadh District has issued a message advising the public to exercise caution amidst the heavy rain and flooding situation. Three roads in the city have been closed to traffic due to severe waterlogging.

On the other hand, low-lying areas in Jamnagar have also submerged in water, causing trouble for the general public. In Rameshwar Nagar, the civic body is trying to drain the water by breaking a bridge.

Kalavad city in Jamnagar and rural areas of the taluka are experiencing heavy rains. The heavy flooding in local rivers has disrupted traffic in surrounding villages. Traffic from Macharda to Navagam has been affected, and similar disruptions are seen from Makarni and Sanosara to Kalavad.

In Kutch, the NDRF team has been put on standby in Bhuj due to the heavy rain warning for the next few hours. A battalion of 30 rescuers from Vadodara arrived in Bhuj today to handle any potential hazards.

In Amreli, Bhabhra taluka has experienced heavy rainfall, causing the Thebi River to flood and submerge the causeway that connects Mahhiyala village to Bhimnath Mahadev mandir. DeshGujarat
