Citing ‘one person, one post’ policy, Patil wishes to step down as Gujarat BJP chief

Ahmedabad: Gujarat state BJP chief C.R. Patil has expressed his wish to step down from his role. He mentioned this during the state BJP executive meeting in Sarangpur on Friday, citing the party’s “one person, one post” policy. Patil has been appointed as the Union Minister of Jal Shakti in the Modi 3.0 government.

It is learned that Patil has communicated this desire to the party leadership and reiterated it at the executive meeting. During the meeting, Patil emphasized the need for a new leader to unify and advance the state unit as the next president. He also apologized to workers and leaders who were denied election tickets during his tenure and regretted that the BJP did not achieve a clean sweep in Gujarat in the recent Lok Sabha election, with Geni Thakor from Banaskantha winning the only seat for Congress.

Union Minister Piyush Goyal, Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel, state organizational general secretary Ratnakar, all top state leaders, and about 1,300 office-bearers up to the taluka level attended the meeting. During Patil’s tenure, the BJP achieved significant victories, including winning 156 out of 182 seats in the 2022 assembly election and dominating local body elections across municipal corporations, municipalities, and taluka and district panchayats.
