Ahmedabad Court denies bail to five Congress workers for stone-pelting incident

Ahmedabad: The Ahmedabad City Civil and Sessions Court has denied bail to five Congress cadres involved in a stone-pelting incident. Several BJP cadres and policemen were severely injured in the stone-pelting clash outside Gujarat state Congress headquarters in Ahmedabad on July 2. The court denied the bail stating that throwing stones in public is a crime and taking the law into one’s own hands in public is inappropriate.

The accused filed their bail application in Ahmedabad court through their advocate Gulab Khan Pathan. The hearing took place yesterday. Subsequently, Sanjay Brahmabhat, Manish Thakor, Mukesh Dantani, and Vimal Kansara who were arrested, will remain in jail.

The government lawyer argued against granting bail, stating that the accused had engaged in anti-social activities and should be denied bail to set an example in society. After considering arguments from both sides, the court rejected the bail applications. The accused face charges of rioting, forming an illegal association, harming a government employee, and endangering lives. They can now appeal to the High Court for bail.

Additionally, police have filed an FIR against Shehzad Khan Pathan (AMC Leader of Opposition), Pragatiben Nandaniya, Hetaben Parikh, and the mob of unnamed Congress and BJP workers involved in the incident. They have been booked under various sections of the Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita (BNS), including 189(2), 191(2), 190, 191(3), 125(b), 121(1), and 121(2).

In this case, police had earlier arrested 5 Congress workers and brought them to the Ahmedabad Metro Court for remand. Police requested 7 days of remand, but the court approved 3 days. The remand concluded at 4 pm last Saturday. The accused were presented in court early that morning. Subsequently, all accused were sent to judicial custody. DeshGujarat
