Delhi: The Ministry of Road Transport & Highways has reported that Gujarat has 259 electric vehicle (EV) charging stations along its national highways. Additionally, the state is set to have 420 EV charging stations installed on highways as part of a broader initiative.

Nitin Gadkari, Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways provided this information in a written response to the Rajya Sabha today. The Ministry of Heavy Industries has set a target for installing 5,833 EV charging stations along highways, part of a total of 7,432 stations being established through three Oil Marketing Companies (OMCs) under the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas. 

The State-wise details of 5, 293 EV charging stations established along National Highways are given at Annexure-A. This includes 4729 EV Charging Stations set up under the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas at an expenditure of Rs. 178 Crore.

Annexure-B provides a state-wise breakdown of these 5,833 stations. Additionally, a capital subsidy of Rs. 800 crore has been allocated to these oil companies for the development of the 7,432 EV charging stations.
