Kankariya zoo gets 8 new animals from Gorewada; to shift 176 animals/birds/reptiles in exchange

Ahmedabad: Kankariya Zoo in the city has received 2 tigresses and 6 leopards (3 females and 3 males) from the Gorewada (Maharashtra) based Wildlife Rescue Centre near Nagpur.
The shifting of animals took place via three trucks in the presence of 10 staff members from Kankariya Zoo after clearance from the Central Zoo Authority. The animals are to be kept in isolation for a one-month period before being put on public display. Kankariya Zoo has a total of 2,100 animals at present, including one lion, two lionesses, one white tigress, three tigresses, 9 leopards (4 males and 5 females), 1 bear, 1 elephant, 2 hippopotamuses, 9 foxes, and a large number of birds and reptiles.
In exchange for the 2 tigresses and pairs of leopards, Kankariya Zoo will give 3 pairs of rosy pelicans, 3 pairs of spoonbills, 5 pairs of night herons, 3 pairs of white ibises, 3 pairs of cormorants, 5 pairs of cattle egrets, 6 pairs of rose-ringed parakeets, 4 pairs of Alexandrine parakeets, 4 pairs of peach-faced lovebirds, 2 pairs of rose-breasted parakeets, 3 pairs of Java sparrows, 3 pairs of rock pythons, 4 pairs of Indian porcupines, 5 pairs of hog deer, 2 pairs of comb ducks, 2 pairs of rufous turtle doves, 30 cockatiels, 30 budgerigars, and 3 pairs of common langurs.
