Holiday declared in schools across Vadodara city on Monday due to heavy rain situation

Vadodara: School holiday has been declared on Monday in Vadodara city due to heavy rain situation today. District Education Officer(DEO) of Vadodara today in a letter to principles and management of schools in Vadodara Municipal Corporation(VMC) area instructed that academic activities will remain shut on Monday across all government, granted, non granted, primary, secondary and higher secondary schools due to heavy rains.

Itr’s wotth to mention here that Vadodara city taluka today received 3.78 inch rainfall during 12 noon to 6 pm period. The rainfall mostly was witnessed after 2 pm. Several areas of the city were waterlogged due to rain. Though the rainfall took halt after 6 pm in the evening. The fresh rainfall further lifted already rising water level of Vishwamitri river to over 22 ft against the danger level of 26 ft and flood level of 30 ft. More over the level of Ajwa dam in upstream also crossed 213 ft level.

Central government’s weather department upgraded its yellow alert bulletin to orange alert for the period upto 8.30 am on Monday. 2 NDRF teams were moved to the city and they are now deployed at the city control and command centre for further instructions. Evacuation of people from low lying areas including Vadsar was going on in the evening. VMC had readied 30 buses, boats and staffers for any eventuality. DeshGujarat
