Vishwamitri water level in Vadodara starts decreasing after 2 pm on Monday due to lack of fresh rain
September 30, 2024
Vadodara: After continuous rise, the level of water at Vishwamitri river in Vadodara started decreasing post 2 pm today. The level of Vishwamitri was rising gradually for last four to five days through the latest round of rainfall. It rose to 25.03 ft at its peak today afternoon and then started decreasing. The sliding trend is thanks to lack of fresh rainfall since 6 pm on Sunday.
The water level stayed steady around 25 ft since morning today before the start of reducing trend post 2 pm. The danger level is 26 ft, while flood level is 30 ft, but thanks to absence of fresh rainfall, no continued closure of Ajwa and Pratappura dams the level started decreasing. The accumulated water kept coming to Kala Ghoda bridge where Vishwamitri’s level is measured meanwhile. The discharge towards Dhadhar and further to the sea was very slow.
The weather department has given yellow alert for now, but looking at the all indicators, the possibility of fresh rainfall is negligible or none. This was ongoing monsoon season’s third occassion when Vadoara had to watch out for the levels of Vishwamitri and Ajwa. In the last week of July, the river fortunately didn’t cross flood level. In August last week it crossed flood level and brought 37.5 ft size flood to the city. Now it’s the last week of September and the city was once again watching out for the level of Ajwa and Vishwamitri. Fortunately, due to lack of fresh rains, the situation didn’t go beyond danger level or flood level.
However the levels of Ajwa dam and Vishwamitri river are still an issue of concern, and continuous watch will need to be kept on their rise(if any) and on the rainfall till the monsoon departs officially. DeshGujarat
