Narmada: The Sardar Sarovar Narmada Dam, the largest dam in Gujarat and often referred to as the lifeline of the state, is set to reach its full reservoir level tomorrow, October 1st, Tuesday. Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel is scheduled to visit the Sardar Sarovar Dam site in Ekta Nagar, Kevadia, where he will offer prayers to water of Maa Narmada to mark this milestone.
The dam, which is crucial for providing drinking water to the majority of Gujarat as well as meeting irrigation needs, has a gross storage capacity of 9,460 MCM. As of 8 PM today, the dam is 99.8% full, with a storage of 9,440.68 MCM.
The full reservoir level of the dam is 138.68 meters, and it has already reached 138.62 meters today with an inflow of 59,000 cusecs of water.
Since the completion of the dam and the installation of its 23 gates approval for which was granted within 15 days after former Gujarat CM, Narendrabhai became Prime Minister the dam is traditionally filled to its highest level on Narendrabhai Modi’s birthday, which falls on September 17.
However, due to heavy rainfall in the upper regions, the dam, which had crossed the 90% water level last month, was subsequently brought down by releasing water into the river downstream. There was significant outflow, preventing it from reaching full capacity by the Prime Minister’s birthday, as per tradition. However, over the last few days, the dam has been filling steadily with less outflow despite the heavy inflow and is going to reach its 100% storage capacity. DeshGujarat
