Ahmedabad: A private school teacher has been detained by the police after CCTV footage of him beating a student went viral on the internet. Vatva police detained Abhishek Patel, a mathematics teacher at Madhav Public School in the area, on Tuesday. The teacher has also been suspended from his position at the school.

The shocking CCTV footage shows Abhishek grabbing a student by the hair and dragging him to the front of the classroom. He is then seen slamming the student against the blackboard and slapping him multiple times while the other students look on.

The video of the corporal punishment, captured by a CCTV camera, prompted the district education officer (DEO) of Ahmedabad city to issue a notice to the school. The notice stated, “The employee appears to be guilty at first glance. Consequently, the employee is to be dismissed immediately as part of disciplinary action according to the rules.”

Regarding the incident, Ahmedabad DEO Rohit Chaudhari said today, “The school authorities have responded to our notice and stated that they have taken necessary actions, including the suspension of the teacher. The school also mentioned that the principal has been removed for not reporting the matter and trying to brush it under the carpet.”

The teacher has been taken into custody by Vatva police following a complaint lodged by the student’s parents. DeshGujarat
