Mevani came to office unannounced, got angry when asked to stop voice recording: IPS Pandian

Gandhinagar: The Congress MLA from Vadgam, Jignesh Mevani, has accused senior IPS officer Rajkumar Pandian of misbehaving with him when he went to meet the officer at his office a few days ago. Now, IPS Rajkumar Pandian has responded to these allegations while speaking to the press.

In his statement to the media, IPS Rajkumar Pandian said, “We invite the leader with due respect and courtesy and pay attention to their requests, conducting follow-ups on those demands until the results come. Mr. Mevani came on October 15 at around noon. Normally, MLAs or MPs inform me or my PA about their arrival or appointment, but Mr. Mevani came without any prior notification. When he arrived, I invited him to my office out of turn, as 7-8 people were already here for a meeting. However, his expectation was that I should go out to receive him, which is not part of protocol. Therefore, he started shouting about why he was not received, claiming that I didn’t know protocol and rules. While shouting, he brought out two phones and started voice recording on one of them. When I asked him to either stop recording or keep the phone outside, he started shouting again. I told him that if he continued to behave like this, I could not listen to his grievances, and he could go and meet my superiors.”

“Other than those 2-3 minutes, I had no interaction with him, and I have never met Mevani before the 15th, so there is no reason for him to claim that I misbehaved.”

When questioned about why Mevani made such allegations, the IPS officer said, “There can be any reason; you’ll have to ask him because I have not initiated anything. If you meet someone for two minutes for the first time, why would you want to encounter such a person? This is all for hype; all the allegations are false. Only he can tell what grievances he had when he came to meet me, but he never addressed that; he just created a ruckus. You cannot always address false allegations made against you, but now that he has gone beyond limits, I felt the need to reply. I did not invite the media; I am only giving a statement because you are here.”

“So many people make false allegations in public service. If you go on filing defamation suits every time, it is a waste of time. I will think and decide about this according to the magnitude of the allegations.”

It is worth mentioning that a few days ago, Congress leader Jignesh Mevani held a press conference where he accused IPS Rajkumar Pandian of misbehaving with him. Mevani stated, “If there is any harm to my family or any member of my team today, tomorrow, or in the future, it will be the full responsibility of CID Crime Chief IPS Rajkumar Pandian.” DeshGujarat
