DPR ready for SP Ring Road six-laning project

Ahmedabad: With the ever-increasing traffic on the SP Ring Road, the Ahmedabad Urban Development Authority (AUDA) has prepared a detailed project report (DPR) for expanding this 76 km highway into six lanes at an estimated cost of Rs 2,000 crore.

In April, AUDA appointed a consultant to manage the project. The upcoming report, which will be submitted to the state’s urban development department, also includes plans for two new flyovers and two underpasses. The Tragad underpass will be widened to six lanes, with flyovers proposed at Aslali Junction and the Dholera Expressway junction. These infrastructure improvements are designed to enhance traffic flow and increase safety on the SP Ring Road.

AUDA will not need to acquire new land for the project; instead, the existing 60-meter-wide road will be utilized for the expansion. The DPR also examines options for rebuilding or extending the Bhat and Komod river bridges to ensure the road’s structural stability.

Currently, the SP Ring Road’s width varies, with the eastern section measuring 42 meters wide and flanked by 18-meter-wide service roads totaling approximately 78 meters. The western section also measures 42 meters wide, with 9-meter-wide service roads on either side.

The new design will feature three lanes on each side while maintaining the service roads. AUDA is going to explore three options to fund the projects, which include toll collection, a build-operate-transfer (BOT) model, or a public-private partnership (PPP) that grants advertising rights.
