Illegal Bangladeshis filled Chandola Lake with waste to build unauthorized houses; blocked Narmada Pipeline too
October 26, 2024
Ahmedabad: The Ahmedabad City Crime Branch on Friday detained 51 illegal Bangladeshi immigrants who will now be deported back to their country. During this operation, the crime branch interrogated 250 individuals and carried out a thorough probe, which revealed that these illegal Bangladeshi immigrants were filling Chandola Lake with processed waste and had built houses on the lake site for themselves.
It was further uncovered that these Bangladeshi infiltrators had blocked the Narmada pipeline and filled it with processed waste from the Pirana dumping site to prevent water from flowing into the lake. This was confirmed when the crime branch reviewed satellite images from 1985, 2011, and 2024. The intruders had also filled parts of the lake and illegally constructed houses for themselves. However, after four months of police operations, 60–70% of these houses have been vacated, with most infiltrators either fleeing or being apprehended. These individuals were found to be using fake Hindu names and had created bogus documentation to stay in India. DeshGujarat
