Mumbai: To cater to passenger demand, Indian Railways is operating special trains during this festive season. From October 1 to November 30, 2024, over 7,700 special trains are being run by Indian Railways, compared to around 4,500 special trains last year—a 73% increase.
According to a press release issued by Shri Vineet Abhishek, Chief Public Relations Officer of Western Railway, for the convenience of passengers and to meet travel demand, Western Railway (WR) is running nearly 900 special trains during the festive season (originating from WR) to various destinations, including Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, West Bengal, and Odisha. These special trains are in addition to 9,275 regular trains being operated from Western Railway to various destinations. Additional coaches are also being added to regular trains based on availability and demand. More than 33 lakh passengers have traveled to northern states between October 1 and November 12, 2024, via Western Railway.
It is noteworthy that on November 4, 2024, over 120 lakh passengers (around 20 lakh reserved and over 100 lakh unreserved, non-suburban) traveled across the country—the highest single-day passenger count of the year.
Shri Vineet further informed that to facilitate smooth travel for passengers returning from Chhath Puja and Diwali holidays, Western Railway has implemented several key measures. Numerous Holiday Special trains are being run on Western Railway routes to accommodate returning passengers, ensuring convenient travel to and from major hubs across the region. DeshGujarat
