Ahmedabad: The construction of the Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel (SVP) Sports Enclave in the city is expected to commence in 2025 and is likely to be completed by 2028, aligning with India’s bid to host the 2036 Olympic Games, with Ahmedabad emerging as a frontrunner to host the international sporting extravaganza.

To optimise costs and legacy usage, the Gujarat government has revised the enclave’s master plan, reducing the project cost from ₹6,000 crore to ₹4,000 crore. This was achieved by relocating the football stadium and two multi-purpose arenas outside the enclave. The updated plan now includes a mix of permanent and temporary venues, ensuring flexibility. Permanent facilities will feature the Narendra Modi Stadium, a 15,000-capacity indoor arena, a 12,000-seat aquatics centre, and housing for athletes. Temporary venues will include a 10,000-seat volleyball arena, a 6,000-seat basketball arena, and urban sports and climbing arenas, each accommodating up to 3,000 spectators.
