Surat Fire Dept begins review of NOCs after massive textile market blaze
March 06, 2025
Surat: The Surat Fire Department has begun reviewing all fire No-Objection Certificates (NOCs) issued to firms operating in textile markets along the city’s ring roads. This action comes a week after the major fire that engulfed the Shiv Shakti Textile Market.
Surat Chief Fire Officer Basant Pareek stated that officials are verifying over 250 textile markets for compliance, ensuring fire safety equipment is functional, and assessing whether market association staff have undergone fire safety training.
Deputy Chief Fire Officer Ishwar Patel reported that several fire department equipment items were damaged while battling the blaze. The upper floors, from the third to the fifth, sustained total destruction, with over half of the 843 shops suffering 50-100% damage. The fire was primarily caused by an electrical short circuit.
It is learned that over 50 lakh liters of water were used in 216 fire tankers to douse the flames. On Tuesday, a fire safety officer recorded his statement regarding the renewal of the fire NOC for the affected market. DeshGujarat
