Paldi gold smuggling case: Accused father-son duo flee to Dubai; DRI expands probe
March 26, 2025
Ahmedabad: The Gujarat Anti-Terrorist Squad (ATS) and the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) are intensifying their probe into a major smuggling racket after recovering over 88 kilograms of suspected smuggled gold from a flat in Paldi last week. The flat was linked to Mahendra Shah, who has now fled to Dubai via Kathmandu to evade arrest.
It is learned that both Mahendra Shah and his son, Megh Shah, are currently in Dubai. Meanwhile, individuals closely associated with the father-son duo in Ahmedabad and Mumbai have come under the scanner of the ATS and DRI. The DRI has identified seven secret locations linked to Mahendra Shah in these cities and has launched investigations at these sites.
Authorities have compiled a list of Shah’s close associates who were involved in daily transactions, and some of them are now under surveillance. Apart from the ongoing searches, legal proceedings have been initiated to establish the extent of the smuggling operations and the roles of those involved.
Investigations are ongoing, and further action is expected based on the findings. DeshGujarat
