Gujarat caps vehicle costs for cooperative office-bearers, raises gift limit
April 25, 2025
Gandhinagar: In a key move, the state cooperatives department has decided to cap the cost of vehicles that cooperative societies can purchase for their chairpersons and office-bearers.
However, the government has raised the annual gift limit for cooperative members. State Cooperation Minister Jagdish Vishwakarma stated that these measures aim to boost transparency in cooperative administration. He noted that while vehicles are essential for cooperative work, many societies had been buying unnecessarily expensive ones, leading to inefficient use of funds. Hence, the State Cooperative Council has unanimously agreed to set spending limits.
Additionally, the state has increased the annual gift allowance for cooperative members by 66% to 150%. Primary cooperative societies can now offer gifts worth up to Rs 1,250 per member, up from the earlier limit of Rs 750. DeshGuajart
