Drunk police constable’s car without number-plate hit 3 in Ranip area of Ahmedabad
June 01, 2025
Ahmedabad: A late-night rampage by an intoxicated police constable in Ranip, Ahmedabad, left three people injured and several vehicles damaged, sparking outrage among locals. The incident occurred near Bakramandi when Constable Yuvraj Singh in uniform, reportedly from Madhavpura police station (though later identified as being on duty at Ellisbridge police station), crashed his numberless WagonR into more than five vehicles before slamming it into a wall.
Eyewitnesses report that the constable, appearing heavily under the influence, was pulled from the vehicle by an angry crowd who administered a beating before he managed to flee the scene, abandoning his car. Despite being a policeman, Yuvraj Singh allegedly threatened locals as they confronted him.
The injured, identified as Sanjay Asari (37) with serious injuries, Kanji Parmar (60) with head and leg injuries, and Mumtaz Sheikh (50) with minor injuries, were all shifted to Civil Hospital for treatment.
The L-Division Traffic Police has launched an investigation into the incident. Initial reports indicate that Yuvraj Singh Jorawar Singh, residing in Ranip Police Lines, was driving at high speed from Central Jail when he caused the series of collisions. Interestingly, the accused’s father is said to be employed at Madhavpura police station.
This incident comes just days after a similar case on May 24th, where a PSI in Vadodara was arrested for hitting three vehicles while driving under the influence. That officer, PSI Yogendrasinh Harisinh Padhiyar, was subsequently suspended and faces a departmental inquiry. The repeated occurrences of police personnel causing accidents while intoxicated raise serious concerns about accountability and discipline within the force. DeshGujarat
