Flash flood risk for Surat, Navsari, Bharuch, Tapi, Valsad until Friday: IMD Bulletin

Ahmedabad: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) today issued a warning for extremely heavy rainfall in parts of Gujarat and a flash flood alert for several districts in South Gujarat. The warning comes amid forecasts of intense weather activity over the next 24 hours.

According to a bulletin issued by the Central Government’s weather agency, the IMD, low to moderate flash flood risk is likely over a few watersheds and neighbourhoods of some meteorological sub-divisions during the next 24 hours. In Gujarat, the districts of Bharuch, Navsari, Surat, Tapi, and Valsad have been placed under Flash Flood Risk (FFR) till 11:30 IST on June 20, 2025. Due to expected heavy rainfall, surface runoff and waterlogging may occur in low-lying and saturated soil areas, the bulletin added.

The IMD has also stated that extremely heavy rainfall (over 20 cm in 24 hours) is likely at isolated places over Konkan, ghat areas of Madhya Maharashtra, and the Gujarat region on June 19.

In its extended forecast, the IMD said that isolated heavy rainfall is likely over Konkan & Goa, Madhya Maharashtra, and Gujarat state from June 19 to 25, with very heavy rainfall predicted over Madhya Maharashtra on June 20, and over the Gujarat region on June 22 and 23.

Light to moderate rainfall is likely at most places across Gujarat, Konkan & Goa, Madhya Maharashtra, and Marathwada during the same period.

Fishermen warning:

The IMD has issued the following advisories for fishermen:

  • Do not venture into the central and adjoining north Arabian Sea from June 19 to 24.

  • Avoid fishing activities along and off Gujarat coasts from June 19 to 24.

  • Caution is advised for coastal regions of Maharashtra, Konkan & Goa, and Karnataka on June 19.
