July 02, 2025
Surat: A road accident occurred near Maldha Phata in Mandvi, Surat district, where an Ertiga car bearing a ‘Police’ sign on the dashboard lost control and rammed into another car, three motorcycles, and a roadside vegetable vendor. Fortunately, no major injuries were reported, though property damage was significant, and one person sustained minor injuries.
According to eyewitnesses, the white Ertiga (registration number GJ 15 CP 9174) suddenly went out of control near Maldha Phata. The vehicle first collided with a passing car, then ploughed into three parked motorcycles, and finally struck a vegetable cart on the roadside, scattering produce and damaging the vendor’s setup.
Locals rushed to the scene and began rescue efforts. Upon inspecting the vehicle, they noticed a ‘Police’ sign on the dashboard, raising further concerns. A subsequent search revealed several empty and half-filled beer cans inside the car, suggesting that the driver may have been under the influence of alcohol at the time of the accident.
Mandvi police were immediately informed and arrived at the spot. A preliminary investigation revealed that the two occupants of the Ertiga were personnel from Gujarat State Reserve Police (SRP) Group 10. Both were taken into custody for further questioning.
Police have registered a case and detained the driver along with the second SRP jawan in the car. They are likely to face charges related to drunk driving, reckless driving, causing an accident, and public endangerment. Medical tests will be conducted to confirm alcohol consumption, as Mandvi police continue their investigation into the incident. DeshGujarat
