Ahmedabad: Nearly two years after it was first proposed, the Amdavad Municipal Corporation (AMC) has revived its ambitious plan to develop a jungle safari and biodiversity park across 500 acres in Gyaspur, located along the Sabarmati river. On Wednesday, the AMC’s garden department issued a fresh tender to appoint a consultant for preparing a detailed project report (DPR) for the initiative.

The project, envisioned as an extension of the Kamla Nehru Zoological Park at Kankaria Lakefront, had initially progressed in the latter part of 2023 with a similar tender. However, it was scrapped due to lack of interest and coordination from AMC officials.

The DPR follows the approval from the central government that was granted a year ago and the submission of a preliminary report to Delhi, after which the clearance was received.

Gyaspur, situated near the Pirana landfill along the Sabarmati, was chosen for its vast, contiguous land—part of the 3,000 acres acquired in 1934 for a sewage farm. The area’s natural ecosystem, which includes a variety of bird species and migratory birds, makes it a suitable location for the safari.

The new DPR will cover master planning, working drawings, technical specifications, and bidding processes. Proposals for afforestation and habitat creation for wildlife are also part of the plan. DeshGujarat
