Ahmedabad: The garden department of the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) has imposed a fine of ₹81,000 on Shalin Residency in Shilaj for illegally axing three trees. The civic body has also directed the society to plant 30 new trees as compensation.
The society, located near Shilaj lake, has been instructed to maintain the newly planted saplings for five years to ensure their survival and growth. The action followed a complaint received by the garden department, which, after an inquiry, confirmed the violation. On July 7, a notice was issued to the society’s chairman and secretary, outlining the penalty.
According to the order, for each tree felled, the society must plant 10 new saplings. The penalty amount includes ₹75,000 as compensation — calculated at ₹2,500 per sapling — along with ₹6,000 in administrative charges. In addition to paying the fine, the society is required to take responsibility for nurturing the trees until they mature. DeshGujarat
