Rainfall update from across Gujarat: Widespread downpour hits state

Gandhinagar: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued red and orange alerts for several districts of Gujarat, warning of heavy to very heavy rainfall across the state. Several parts of Gujarat witnessed intense rainfall between 6 AM and 4 PM on Saturday, with Valsad’s Kaprada taluka topping the chart at 168 mm (6.61 inches).

Significant rainfall was also reported from Botad (89 mm – 3.5 in), Rajkot’s Paddhari (80 mm – 3.15 in), Sabarkantha’s Talod (76 mm – 2.99 in), Poshina (72 mm – 2.83 in), Jamkandorna (72 mm – 2.83 in), and Prantij (69 mm – 2.72 in). Sanand in Ahmedabad recorded 68 mm (2.68 in), while Umbergaon in Valsad received 66 mm (2.6 in).

Other talukas witnessing heavy showers include Bayad (61 mm – 2.4 in), Radhanpur (58 mm – 2.28 in), Bhiloda (52 mm – 2.05 in), Modasa (48 mm – 1.89 in), Dhoraji (47 mm – 1.85 in), Patan (44 mm – 1.73 in), Kadi (44 mm – 1.73 in), Rajkot City (41 mm – 1.61 in), and Kalavad (41 mm – 1.61 in). Authorities are keeping a close watch on rainfall trends and have urged citizens to exercise caution, especially in flood-prone areas.

The IMD has cautioned that low-lying areas and regions along rivers may experience waterlogging and localized flooding. Citizens are advised to avoid non-essential travel and stay updated on weather warnings issued by local authorities. — DeshGujarat
