Ahmedabad: Continuous heavy rainfall in the upstream areas has led to a significant release of water from Dharoi Dam and Lakroda Weir over the past two days, prompting precautionary measures in low-lying regions including the areas of Ahmedabad.
On September 6, around 95,000 cusecs of water was released from Dharoi Dam, while 90,000 cusecs was discharged from Lakroda Weir. In response, the Lower Promenade of Sabarmati Riverfront was closed as a safety measure. The situation remained similar on September 7, with 95,000 cusecs of water released from Dharoi Dam and an increased 1,47,000 cusecs from Lakroda Weir. Amdavad Municipal Corporation(AMC) has deployed security personnel on both sides of the river in Ahmedabad and informed local police stations. Police teams are conducting continuous patrolling in vulnerable areas.
As a precaution, 25 families from Parikshit Nagar in Ahmedabad were shifted to safer locations. Officials have also issued warnings to residents, urging them not to venture near the riverbanks and to remain alert as the water level continues to rise. The administration is closely monitoring the situation to ensure public safety and minimize risks from the heavy inflow. DeshGujarat
