Heavy rains likely to return to Gujarat from Sept 14: IMD forecast

Surat: After a spell of torrential rains, Gujarat has seen some relief over the last two days with no major rainfall activity across the state. However, this relief will be short-lived as the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow warning for heavy rains in parts of the state from September 14 to 16. Until September 14, the entire state is likely to receive only light to moderate rainfall.

According to the IMD bulletin, all districts of Gujarat are expected to witness light to moderate rains over the next four days, till September 13.

From September 14, heavy rains are very likely at isolated places in the districts of Surat, Dang, Navsari, Valsad, Tapi, as well as in Daman, Dadra and Nagar Haveli. Other districts may receive light showers.

On September 15, heavy rains are forecast at isolated places in Chhota Udepur, Narmada, Surat, Dang, Navsari, Valsad, Tapi, Daman, and Dadra and Nagar Haveli. A yellow warning has been issued for these areas.

On September 16, heavy rains are very likely in Navsari, Valsad, Daman, and Dadra and Nagar Haveli.

Synoptic Situation

  • A depression over the northeast Arabian Sea and adjoining south Pakistan moved nearly westwards at a speed of 20 kmph during the past six hours. It lay centred at 0830 hrs IST on September 10, 2025, over the same region near latitude 24.8°N and longitude 65.5°E — about 170 km west of Karachi (Pakistan), 300 km west-southwest of Hyderabad (Pakistan), and 390 km west-northwest of Naliya (Gujarat). It is very likely to continue moving westwards and gradually weaken into a well-marked low-pressure area during the next six hours.

  • The monsoon trough at mean sea level now passes through the depression over northeast Arabian Sea and adjoining south Pakistan, Bhuj, Banasthali, Agra, Barabanki, Varanasi, Daltonganj, Ranchi, Digha, and southeastwards into the east-central Bay of Bengal.
