Jamnagar: A 32-year-old cattle rearer, Bhupatbhai Harjibhai Thunga, died after being electrocuted by a live wire fixed to fencing around a cotton field in Beraja village of Jamnagar taluka on September 12. Thunga had gone to graze his sheep and goats near the Jaga village canal around 1:30 pm when he accidentally came in contact with the electrified wire.

Police investigation revealed that the wire was connected to the farm of Kanubha alias Bhikhubha Ramsang Rathod, who had allegedly electrified the fence to protect crops. Acting on a complaint filed by the deceased’s brother, police registered a case and arrested Rathod on September 13.

Jamnagar Rural DySP Rajendra Devdha warned farmers against such practices, stating – “Despite knowing the risk of death, an electric current was applied to the fence. The accused has been arrested. The district police urge farmers not to use electricity on farm fences as it endangers lives. If found, strict action will be taken.”

This incident follows a similar case reported from Nandana village of Jamjodhpur taluka on August 26, when a farmer named Mehul died of electrocution. In that case, police had registered a complaint against another farmer, Ashok alias Sidabapa, whose anticipatory bail was later rejected by the Sessions Court. DeshGujarat
