Rainfall in parts of Gujarat; IMD issues orange, yellow alert for heavy rain for next 4 days

Ahmedabad: Several parts of Gujarat witnessed rainfall today. Unjha and Mehsana received rain early in the morning, followed by showers in Veraval, Gir Somnath, and Surat during the afternoon.
This comes as the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued yellow and orange alerts for heavy rainfall in major districts of the state for the next four days. The IMD’s forecast has been issued amid a depression over the east-central Arabian Sea, centered near latitude 16.5°N and longitude 70.4°E — about 380 km west-northwest of Panjim (Goa) and 400 km southwest of Mumbai (Maharashtra). It is likely to move northwestwards across the east-central Arabian Sea during the next 24 hours and may bring rainfall to the western region of the country, including Gujarat and Maharashtra.

During the next 24 hours, a yellow alert for heavy rain has been issued for Bharuch, Surat, Dang, Navsari, Valsad, Tapi, Daman, Dadra and Nagar Haveli, Amreli, Bhavnagar, Gir Somnath, and Diu.
Similarly, Aravalli, Kheda, Ahmedabad, Anand, Panchmahal, Dahod, Mahisagar, Vadodara, Chhota Udepur, Narmada, Bharuch, Surat, Dang, Navsari, Valsad, Tapi, Daman, Dadra and Nagar Haveli, Surendranagar, Rajkot, Jamnagar, Porbandar, Junagadh, Amreli, Bhavnagar, Morbi, Dwarka, Gir Somnath, Botad, and Diu have been put on yellow warning for thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and surface winds of 30–40 kmph.
On October 26, an orange alert forecasting heavy to very heavy rainfall has been issued for Amreli, Bhavnagar, and Botad, while Aravalli, Kheda, Ahmedabad, Anand, Panchmahal, Dahod, Mahisagar, Vadodara, Chhota Udepur, Narmada, Bharuch, Surat, Dang, Navsari, Valsad, Tapi, Daman, Dadra and Nagar Haveli, Surendranagar, Rajkot, Porbandar, Junagadh, Gir Somnath, and Diu will remain under yellow alert.
Additionally, a yellow warning for light thunderstorms with lightning and surface winds of 30–40 kmph, accompanied by light to moderate rain, has been issued for all districts of the state.
On October 27, heavy rain is very likely at isolated places in Mehsana, Sabarkantha, Gandhinagar, Aravalli, Kheda, Ahmedabad, Anand, Bharuch, Surat, Navsari, Valsad, Daman, and Dadra and Nagar Haveli, and in Surendranagar, Rajkot, Porbandar, Junagadh, Amreli, Bhavnagar, Gir Somnath, Botad, and Diu.
A yellow warning for thunderstorms with lightning and surface winds of 30–40 kmph, accompanied by light to moderate rain, is also likely across all districts of Gujarat.
On October 28, a yellow alert for heavy rain has been issued for Bharuch, Surat, Navsari, Valsad, Daman, Dadra and Nagar Haveli, Porbandar, Junagadh, Gir Somnath, and Diu. A separate yellow alert for light thunderstorms with lightning and surface winds of 30–40 kmph, accompanied by light to moderate rain, has also been issued for all districts of the state.
From October 29 to 31, all districts of Gujarat may witness light to moderate rain at isolated places, according to the IMD.
