Pilot project for Digital Census to be held in Surat
November 03, 2025
Surat: A digital population census pilot project will be conducted in Sagrampura from November 10 to 30. Ahead of the exercise, around 200 staff members from the Surat Municipal Corporation (SMC) and the district collectorate are undergoing a three-day training session starting November 1 to prepare for digital data collection.
The pilot will cover City Survey Ward No. 2, where enumerators will use mobile devices to gather demographic data, replacing traditional paper-based surveys. Each property will be digitally mapped and geotagged to enhance accuracy.
Similar trials are also being carried out in Gadh Baria and Tankara of Morbi district. The initiative will collect detailed data on household composition, infrastructure, and assets, serving as a precursor to the national digital census scheduled in two phases—April to September 2026 and February to March 2027.
