Crossfire between police and Bishnoi gang members in Navsari; four held, one injured

Navsari: At least one person sustained injuries after a crossfire broke out between alleged members of a Bishnoi gang and the State Monitoring Cell (SMC) of the Gujarat Police in Billimora.

The suspects had reportedly checked into a hotel to conduct an illegal arms deal when the police team raided the premises. As the SMC team entered the hotel, the suspected gang members opened fire on the police in an attempt to escape. In response, the police retaliated in self-defence. During the exchange of fire, one of the accused was hit in the leg and was immediately shifted to a hospital for treatment.

Confirming the incident, Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Nirlipt Rai of the SMC said, “A crossfire took place between the accused and the SMC team on the morning of November 11 in Billimora, Navsari district.”

He added that one accused was injured during the encounter, while others were apprehended by the SMC team.

According to officials, the SMC recovered three country-made pistols and 27 live cartridges from the accused. The situation was swiftly brought under control, and the injured were taken for medical treatment. Police said an FIR will soon be registered at the SMC Police Station in Gandhinagar.
